About the role

We are seeking a Machinist III to join our team at Emerson in Aiken, SC. In this role, you will work with the Fabrication Supervisor and will be responsible for various operations within the Fabrication department. You will be responsible for operating and maintaining precision machinery to fabricate high-quality components and parts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all work in a safe manner while independently setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing CNC machining processes to meet production, quality, and delivery requirements.
  • Maintain product quality through dimensional inspection and process adjustments as needed to ensure conformance to specifications and maximize process performance.
  • Support production flow by cleaning, packaging, and preparing components for inspection and downstream operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area through daily 5S activities and perform routine Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) tasks to sustain equipment reliability, performance, and uptime.
  • Actively support continuous improvement efforts related to safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures. Stop work when unsafe conditions exist and immediately report safety concerns to leadership and/or EHS.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, routers, process documentation, and work instructions.
  • Verify revision levels and ensure compliance with all applicable drawings, specifications, and process documentation.
  • Perform dimensional inspections and make machine, tooling, offset, and process adjustments as required to maintain product conformance.
  • Independently set up, operate, troubleshoot, and optimize CNC machining processes to meet safety, quality, delivery, and productivity requirements.
  • Edit machine programs, feeds, speeds, offsets, and dimensional parameters as required to maintain product quality and optimize process performance.
  • Troubleshoot tooling, machining, quality, and production issues and coordinate support when additional technical resources are required.
  • Select, install, adjust, and replace cutting tools, inserts, drills, boring bars, saw blades, recess tools, guide bushings, collets, and other tooling as required.
  • Evaluate and implement alternate tooling and machining methods when standard tooling is unavailable or process improvements are warranted.
  • Optimize tooling and machining processes to improve cycle time, quality, productivity, equipment utilization, and tool life.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain bar feeders and material handling systems as required.
  • Load and unload raw material and completed components as required to support production.
  • Operate multiple machines simultaneously while maintaining safety, quality, and production standards.
  • Identify, document, and properly dispose of nonconforming material and scrap.
  • Perform daily TPM activities, including inspection, lubrication, fluid management, and basic equipment maintenance to sustain machine reliability and performance.
  • Aid maintenance personnel and external service providers with troubleshooting, repair, and recovery activities.
  • For Swiss and Hydromat applications, perform machine adjustments, station timing and alignment checks, tooling optimization, and process improvements required to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Serve as a technical resource for machinists and operators by providing guidance, training, troubleshooting support, and sharing best practices.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, delivery, cost, and equipment effectiveness.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready work area through daily 5S activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and process documentation.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment and performing machining calculations.
  • The ability to independently set up, operate, troubleshoot, and optimize machining processes without direct supervision.
  • Working knowledge of CNC programming and the ability to make program edits to support quality, productivity, and process performance.
  • Understanding of multi-axis machining concepts, including Y-axis and C-axis functionality on CNC lathes.
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, routers, process documentation, and work instructions.
  • The ability to use precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, depth micrometers, comparators, pitch micrometers, and other inspection tools.
  • The ability to effectively communicate quality concerns, production issues, and process improvement opportunities with operators, leads, supervisors, engineering, and maintenance personnel.
