ManagementFull-time

Chart’s core business is centered around the design and fabrication of cryogenic equipment. We solve customer challenges from conceptual design through installation and commissioning. Our mission is to provide full solutions across the Nexus of Clean™—clean power, clean water, clean food, and clean industrials. Applications include hydrogen solutions, carbon capture, water treatment (4.5 billion gallons/day in the U.S.), space launches, marine decarbonization, mining electrification, and food/beverage carbonation (e.g., nitro coffee, nitro ice cream).

About the role

This role within Chart’s manufacturing and admin group is crucial to building our products on time and to the highest quality. You will work towards production goals through appropriate management of people and equipment, collaborating with supporting roles, departments, and site leadership. Key responsibilities include people management and development, maintaining a safe work environment, guiding teams to meet customer expectations, tracking KPIs, supporting problem-solving, and identifying continuous improvement opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Independently set up 5-axis CNC machines and mill-turn machines (e.g., Mazak Integrex, DMG Mori, or similar), including loading tools, fixtures, and materials, and configuring machine parameters for accurate and efficient production.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings to program and execute machining operations on both 5-axis and mill-turn equipment.
  • Run parts complete without assistance, ensuring adherence to tight tolerances and specifications across milling and turning operations.
  • Select, install, and calibrate appropriate tooling for both milling and turning processes to ensure optimal performance and precision.
  • Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMM) to verify part dimensions and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Diagnose and resolve machining issues, such as tool wear, machine malfunctions, or programming errors, on 5-axis and mill-turn machines to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of 5-axis and mill-turn machines to ensure equipment reliability and longevity.
  • Maintain accurate records of production runs, tool changes, and setup procedures for traceability and process improvement.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-7 years as a machinist, with at least 4 years operating 5-axis CNC machines and mill-turn machines.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming (G-code, M-code) for both milling and turning operations, including the ability to edit programs on the machine.
  • Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, GD&T, and specifications for complex parts.
  • Extensive knowledge of cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and materials (e.g., aluminum, titanium, stainless steel) for milling and turning processes.
  • Proven ability to complete setups and production runs without supervision on both 5-axis and mill-turn machines.
  • Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot complex machining issues efficiently.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, producing parts within tight tolerances (e.g., ±0.0005 inches).
  • Ability to read proficiently and write legibly.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as a team player.
  • Commitment to understanding and promoting business safety standards and guidelines.

Physical Work Environment

  • Majority of work shift spent standing.
  • Lift and move up to 35 pounds; above 35 pounds requires lifting equipment.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, pulling, and pushing.
  • Good vision for close and distance with ability to focus.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Employer contributions to an HSA account.
  • Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).
  • Company-paid short-term and long-term disability coverage.
