CNC Machinist II

About the role

The CNC Machinist II is responsible for the set-up and operation of CNC and manual machines as well as the inspection of parts. Must have the demonstrated skills to follow written instructions and monitor the equipment to its full capacity. Must have the demonstrated ability to perform work according to specifications and company quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Setup and operate CNC Lathe and CNC Vertical Mill (inclusive of 5, 4 and 3 axis milling machines).
• Interact with all aspects of a machine's controls and operating software, including tool touch off procedure with understanding of tool compensation and wear offsets.
• Changeover of product with basic set up, including work holding fixtures, stops, datum offsets and indicators.
• Maintain cleanliness of work area, machine tooling and parts, ensuring they are free from excess oil deposits; maintain coolant and machine lubrication fluid systems using a refractometer.
• Receive work orders and verify component accuracy.
• Meet or exceed production quotas.
• Demonstrate critical thinking to design solutions for complex issues.
• Serve as a problem solver and troubleshoot all maintenance and address error issues on all machines.
• Determine and implement cutting tool offsets, use MDI and assist programmer with editing programs.
• Evaluate and act upon machine alarms and error messages.
• Troubleshoot and repair equipment when not operating properly.
• Determine and implement alternative tooling approaches when needed.
• Identify root causes of problems and resolve without supervision.
• Streamline machining processes.
• Train CNC Machine Operators & Machinists on machinery, including training and mentoring.
• Propose continuous improvement opportunities for all processes.
• Document and submit necessary revisions to Work Order Routings, Work Instructions and Quality Inspection documentation.
• Operate various secondary and special purpose machines including drill presses and trademarking fixtures, in addition to mechanical presses along with performing deburring product and chip cleaning operations.
• Collaborate with management to identify manufacturing issues and assist with cross training efforts, when necessary.

Requirements

• 8+ years of machining experience on CNC equipment and related degree or equivalent combination of both.
• Good communication skills in English, including the ability to read, write and understand.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Demonstrates exceptional teamwork.
• Ability to drive others to exceed goals.
• Ability to work independently in a high volume, fast paced work atmosphere.
• Basic skills in MS Office Suite.
• Ability to work overtime, as scheduled.
• College Level manufacturing certification.

Qualifications

• Reads and interprets blueprints and work instructions.
• Trains CNC Machine Operators & Machinists on machinery, including training and mentoring.
• Proposes continuous improvement opportunities for all processes.
• Documents and submits necessary revisions to Work Order Routings, Work Instructions and Quality Inspection documentation.
