CNC Machinist - Grinding Operator

About the role

Primarily set up and operate CNC cylindrical (O.D) grinders (e.g., Kellenberger, Studer, etc.) to produce high-precision parts from a variety of materials, ensuring full compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC cylindrical grinders (e.g., Kellenberger, Studer, Jones & Shipman, Hauser, Clausing).
• Work from blueprints, operation sheets, travelers, or other specifications to complete machining operations for high-precision parts.
• Perform complex setups, including fixturing, wheel selection, and dressing, for self and others.
• Operate equipment as needed and create/edit CNC programs on the machine.
• Select grinding wheels, tooling, gages, and other equipment as required.
• Assist other operators with setup or production problems.
• Use measuring instruments and gages to perform dimensional and visual inspections on close-tolerance parts.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment.
• Conduct centerless grinding (in-feed and thru-feed) on equipment such as Cincinnati and Royal Master grinders.
• Pack and clean parts as needed.
• Perform other machining and assembly operations as required.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent; technical school training a plus.
• Five or more years of increasingly diverse experience in a machine shop or CNC machining environment.
• Ability to set up CNC cylindrical grinders (e.g., Kellenberger, Studer).
• Experience with centerless grinding (Cincinnati, Royal Master) or pinch-peel grinding (e.g., Rollomatic, ANCA) is a plus.
• Experience with manual cylindrical grinders (e.g., Brown & Sharpe) is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, operation sheets, specifications, and company/customer paperwork.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs.
• Able to stand for up to 8+ hours.
