CNC Machinist

The Arab, AL site of Orchid, a combined entity of Tecomet and Orchid, is situated near Huntsville, Alabama, known for its high quality of life. With easy access to world-class recreational areas, top-tier educational institutions, and affordable living costs, the site has been operational since 2007 and became part of the Orchid family in 2012. Currently employing approximately 200 team members, Orchid specializes in advanced machining of complex instruments for the large joint, spine, and trauma markets.

About the role

The CNC Machinist position plays a crucial role in producing medical devices by operating multi-axis CNC machines. This role involves running multiple and varied CNC machines simultaneously, including Lathes, Mills, and Plunge machines. The Machinist, CNC reports directly to the area Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic machining functions to produce parts.
• Operates multiple machines simultaneously.
• Maintains proper machine performance by monitoring the machine.
• Completes shop work orders, inspection documentation, and daily maintenance sheets.
• Makes off sets and adjustments to machines with moderate supervision.
• Advocates for the health and safety of self, co-workers, customers, and the community.
• Ensures quality and compliance by adhering to all procedures, work instructions, and forms per the Quality Management Systems (QMS).
• Completes all required training.

Qualifications

• High School or equivalent (preferred)
• Leverage in Lean Manufacturing (preferred)
• Experience in Medical Device Manufacturing (preferred)
• One to two years of experience operating machining equipment in a manufacturing environment (preferred)
• Experience operating CNC Mills or Lathes independently (required)
• Experience using measuring tools, such as calipers, height gauge, indicator (required)
• Experience reading basic blueprints (required)

Education

• Machining Trade School (preferred)

Physical Demands

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position frequently.
• Must be able to move about the inside of the building occasionally.
• Must be able to move equipment around the building occasionally.
• Must be able to position oneself and move under/around/over equipment occasionally.
• Must be able to handle/adjust/inspect/position various items and equipment constantly.
• Must be able to communicate and exchange information with others frequently.
• Must be able to perform tasks that require repetitive handling/adjusting/inspecting/positioning of items and equipment constantly.
• Must be able to distinguish and detect information such as writing and defects frequently.
