Job Duties

  • Loads parts, proves tapes, operates controls, sets offsets, performs advanced edits, deburr parts, and inspects quality parts for conformance to requirements.
  • Studies and interprets drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, operation sequences, and setup requirements.
  • Marks dimensions and reference points on materials or workpieces as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Detects equipment malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machines, within capabilities, controls, or control media as required to ensure quality of production.
  • Reports all machine malfunctions to immediate supervisor.
  • Operates a forklift and lifting devices for moving parts.
  • Affords assistance in solving complex plant operating problems and/or cost reduction projects.
  • Affords assistance in training other employees.
  • Communicates with supervisor, engineers, production control, quality, and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.
  • Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly and performs basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment.

Functional/Tech Competencies

  • Experience operating CNC Machines such as lathes and milling machines in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments, including calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators, and scales.
  • Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines.
  • Ability to operate a forklift and lifting devices for moving parts.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate in English (both written and oral).
  • Adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands, and able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Able to work flexible shifts and changing work schedules.
  • Basic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, geometry, and algebra for the purpose of calculating material fabrication.
