About the role

The CNC Machinist plays a crucial role in the manufacturing team, responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC mills, CNC lathes, and other machining equipment to produce precision components.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC mills, CNC lathes, and manual lathes to manufacture precision components according to engineering specifications.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications to determine machining requirements and processes.
  • Utilize CAD/design software to review, modify, and support the development of machining programs and component designs.
  • Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and tooling based on the material, part geometry, and machining requirements.
  • Develop and modify CNC programs, offsets, and machine parameters to ensure accurate and efficient production.
  • Apply knowledge of machining processes, speeds and feeds, cutting tools, and material properties to optimize machining operations.
  • Set up machines, perform tooling changes, make adjustments, and troubleshoot machining issues to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Work with a variety of materials, including metals and other materials commonly used in precision manufacturing, and determine appropriate machining methods based on material characteristics.
  • Inspect finished components using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Identify opportunities to improve machining processes, reduce scrap, improve cycle times, and increase overall manufacturing efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve machining challenges and develop effective manufacturing solutions.
  • Maintain CNC machines, tooling, fixtures, and work areas in accordance with company standards.
  • Accurately document production activities, quality results, tooling changes, and other required manufacturing records.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all company safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience setting up, programming, and operating CNC mills and/or CNC lathes.
  • Strong working knowledge of CNC machining processes, including turning, milling, drilling, boring, and other precision machining operations.
  • Experience with tool selection, tooling setup, workholding, and tool changes based on material and part requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of various metals and machining materials, including an understanding of how material properties affect machining processes and tooling selection.
  • Experience developing, modifying, and adjusting CNC programs, offsets, speeds, and feeds.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring and inspection equipment, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measurement tools.
  • Experience using CAD/design software to review and interpret part designs and support machining operations.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve machining, tooling, and equipment issues.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality parts.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
