CNC Machinist

About the role

The CNC Machinist Level III is responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC and manual machining equipment while serving as a technical resource for the team. This role trains and mentors Level I and II operators, supports continuous improvement initiatives, maintains ITT Quick Change setup software and tooling, and ensures a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities

• Train Level I and II operators on running and offsets for CNC machines, gear cutters, and other manual machines.
• Contribute ideas for continuous improvement for setups and processes.
• Maintain ITT Quick Change setup software and proficiency with quick change tooling.
• Keep work area clean, wipe down daily, and maintain all setup tooling in the correct holders.
• Set up and operate a variety of CNC machines such as lathes, mills, and mill turns.
• Monitor machine gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure proper machine operation and alignment.
• Use critical thinking to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches to problems.
• Control operations of equipment or systems while working within tolerances of .0002" in a high-pressure, fast-paced, quality-oriented environment.
• Perform other duties or responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to read, write, and understand English, perform simple shop math calculations, and follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
• General computer experience.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing good customer service, including meeting quality standards and evaluating customer satisfaction.
• Mathematics knowledge, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications.
• Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, and general maintenance.
• Understanding of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing effective manufacture of goods.
• Operation monitoring skills to watch machine gauges, dials, or other indicators.
• Critical thinking to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches.
• Operation and control of equipment or systems.
• Active listening skills, giving full attention to others and asking questions as appropriate.
• Coordination to adjust actions in relation to others' actions.
• Knowledge of all machine measuring equipment and their use.
• Ability to lift 35 lbs frequently.
• Minimum 2 years of CNC machine shop experience as a machinist operating CNC machines.
• Lean experience in setups and mistake proofing preferred.
• High School diploma or GED or trade school certification.

Skills

• CNC machine setup and operation (lathes, mills, mill turns).

Physical Abilities

• Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

• Must wear required safety equipment such as safety shoes and safety glasses.
• Occasional outdoor exposure to hot, cold, and/or damp weather.
• Daily exposure to dust, fumes, metal chips, and odors from an industrial environment.
• Ability to work weekends, alternate shifts, and overtime as required.

Pay

Equal Pay Act Range: $26.78/hr - $40.14/hr. The salary offered is based on candidate experience, qualifications, location, and market/business considerations.
