About the role

Avcon Industries, Inc. designs complex special-mission and ISR aircraft modifications, provisioning aircraft with custom Pods, camera ports, radomes, equipment racks, mission consoles, underwing stores, and more. Modifications support surveillance, patrol, target towing, search and rescue, and aerial survey missions. The CNC Machinist sets up, operates, and maintains CNC equipment to manufacture precision aerospace components, collaborating with engineering, quality, and production teams on both production and custom fabrication projects.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machines, including mills and lathes, to produce precision components
  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications, including GD&T
  • Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and materials for machining operations
  • Load, edit, and troubleshoot CNC programs (G-code) as needed
  • Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
  • Ensure all parts meet required tolerances, quality standards, and customer specifications
  • Identify and resolve machining issues, including tool wear, offsets, and machine performance
  • Support prototype, custom, and low-volume production work
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and inspection results
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or machining coursework preferred
  • 2+ years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment (aerospace experience preferred)
  • Proficiency operating CNC mills and/or lathes
  • Experience reading and interpreting complex blueprints and GD&T
  • Familiarity with G-code programming and editing
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments

Work Environment

Manufacturing/shop environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and metal materials. Requires standing for extended periods and lifting materials as needed. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
