Position Overview

Through this Apprenticeship you will learn manufacturing skills, get working knowledge and experience on a variety of CNC machines and controls. The apprentice shall receive on the job training as well as related supplemental instruction with our partners at Lower Columbia College to become a qualified journey-level Machinist.

LifePort Machinist Duties and Responsibilities

  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and informs lead person of discrepancies.
  • Thoroughly inspects first part run.
  • Mets job standard times with minimal supervision.
  • Recognizes production problems and informs supervisor.
  • Understands basic machine language (G and M codes).
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications using standard measuring tools.
  • Reads and interprets manufacturing / Engineering drawings.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties in the machine shop as directed.
  • Follows all safety guidelines established by the Company, including proper use of equipment and procedures.

  • Demonstrates a good attitude toward work and arrives on time for start of shift.
  • Communicates well verbally and in writing.
  • Mechanically inclined, with good manual dexterity.

Apprentice Program Minimum Qualifications

  • Age: Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Education: Applicant shall be a high school graduate or equivalent and provide proof of educational attainment through such means as diploma, transcripts, or official GED or High School Equivalency test results.
  • Physical: Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the occupation with or without reasonable accommodation and without endangering the safety or health of co-workers.
