CNC Machinist 2nd Shift (4x10 Schedule Mon.-Thur.)

About the role

Mueller Water Products is seeking a CNC Machinist for our newest facility in Kimball, TN. This role operates on a 4x10 schedule (Monday–Thursday). As a Machinist, you will set up, program, and operate CNC and various other machines, maintain quality and safety standards, and perform routine maintenance on equipment.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints, engineering plans, material documents, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
• Program mills and lathes using conversational software, G & M code, including setting zero and reference points, tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculate requirements using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; and prove out-part programs.
• Set up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicate vices and tram heads.
• Set up, load, and adjust bar feeder systems.
• Verify machine settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces.
• Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, and thread chasing operations; take measurements, detect malfunctions, troubleshoot processes, adjust and reprogram controls, replace worn tools, and adhere to quality assurance procedures.
• Maintain equipment through routine preventive maintenance per manufacturer recommendations, troubleshoot malfunctions, and order repairs as needed.
• Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting actions, irregularities, and operational needs; communicate issues to supervisors.
• Maintain operational documentation, including production and quality logs.
• Keep work area and department clean and organized.
• Adhere to safety guidelines, flag equipment or safety issues, and follow the “Stop, Call, Wait” procedure.
• Perform other routine duties as directed.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience programming, setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC machines in an industrial/manufacturing environment.

Skills

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and product drawings.
• Ability to set up, program, and operate CNC or manual machines.
• Strong commitment to safety in industrial/manufacturing environments.
• Advanced math skills, including understanding of measuring concepts and applications.
• Familiarity with thread gauges, ring gauges, ID/OD micrometers, and other measuring devices.
• Ability to read and use micrometer calipers and other precision measuring tools.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and ear plugs.
• Ability to use hands to handle, feel, or manipulate objects with fingers.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and reaching within hands/arm’s length.
• Frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
• Occasional reaching overhead or at/below shoulder level.
• Ability to ascend/descend ladders or steps in confined spaces.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects between 25–50 pounds in all directions.
• Ability to remain stationary or stand for prolonged periods and alternate positions as needed.
• Ability to perform repetitive gross or fine manipulation, including use of wrists, hands, and fingers.
• Ability to perform close visual inspections of products, including specific vision requirements.
• Ability to work in an open warehouse environment.
