CNC MACHINIST - 1st SHIFT

Job Summary

Under minimum supervision working from blueprints, sketches written and/or verbal instructions, sets up and performs the most diversified and complex progressive machining, fitting and assembly operations. Determines proper tooling and sequence of operations, and skillfully uses all machinists' hand tools and machine shop measuring equipment in order to produce work to specifications.

Essential Functions

• Makes complicated set-ups and operates available machine tools; determines operational sequences, proper jigs, fixtures and design of tools to be used.
• Skillfully uses all machinist's hand tools and measuring instruments.
• Familiar with the machining of most materials.
• Uses advanced shop math, including trigonometry.
• May be required to assign work to lower level machinists.
• Moves parts to and from the work area.
• Maintains good housekeeping in the work area.
• Mets all safety requirements in the machine shop and follows all company policies.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent education
• Completion of an apprenticeship program or similar on the job experience of approximately four years or at least five years experience as a machinist
• Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills

Equipment/Machinery Used

• Proficient use of set up and operation of CNC machining center
• Proficient use of tool and surface grinders
• Proficient use of all shop inspection equipment, including but not limited to, CMM, comparator, digital height gages, micrometers, etc.

Physical Requirements

• Moderate physical activity
• Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds and pushing, pulling or standing and walking for extended periods of time
