CNC Machine Operator - Night Shift - Aerospace
About the role
Night Shift Hours are 4:30 PM - 4:00 AM with a $4/hour Shift Differential!
Responsibilities
- Operate computer-controlled machines to perform one or more machine functions required to produce customer orders.
- Accurately locate/identify the X, Y, Z axis on Vertical and Horizontal machines.
- Perform daily point checks on assigned machines and report concerns to supervisor; initiate maintenance requests if necessary.
- Maintain departmental/company goals and objectives, such as efficiencies, scrap control, time motion, and setup time reductions.
- Interpret product blueprints, drawings, sketches, set up sheets, and other work instructions.
- Use scales, calipers, micrometers, and height gauges to ensure parts are machined to proper specifications.
- Remove and replace dull cutting tools following safety protocol and instructions.
- Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Listen to machines during operation to detect irregular sounds and adjust machines as necessary.
- Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or machines malfunction.
- Stop machines to remove finished workpieces or change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement according to required machining sequences.
- Lift workpieces manually or with hoists or cranes.
- Enter control instructions into machine control units to start operation.
- Monitor and adjust/controls coolant systems as needed.
- Transfer commands from servers to computer numerical control (CNC) modules using computer network links.
- Set up future jobs, perform inspections or part checks, clean work area, or perform other duties while machines are operating.
- Assist in training new operators.
- Deburr machined parts as required for work in process.
- Communicate verbally (English) and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Perform other tasks and/or assignments as required.
Requirements
To perform the essential functions of this role, employees must be able to perform the following activities with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, stand for long periods to perform job duties.
- Regularly lift, carry (short distances), and push/pull up to 100 pounds using peer assistance and/or other lifting & material-handling equipment.
- Sometimes reach overhead and reach out or down to perform duties.
- Sometimes climb steps, stairs, or ladders.
- Sometimes bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or kneel.
- Frequently use hands and fingers to manually inspect parts, tighten hardware & fixtures, and operate machine and material handling controls.
- Accurately distinguish colors to respond to sensors, indicators, and color-variable dashboards.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Experience requirements vary based on position level.
- Experience reading & accurately interpreting shop blueprints, sketches, and other technical information/instructions is required.
- Demonstrated basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fraction conversions).
- Experience using mics, calipers, height gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
- A history of consistent employment without unexplained or significant gaps or frequent job changes is expected.
- Completion of assigned internal training for Level I, II, or III Operators, and periodic retraining or recertification is required.
- Experience using cranes, forklifts, and similar heavy & oversized material handling equipment is preferred.
Skills
Experience using computer numerical control (CNC) machines or similar automated equipment is required.
