CNC Machine Operator Level 1

Responsibilities

  • Define and code tool arrangements, material clamping methods, machine calibrations, and console settings for operations such as bore, mill, drill, face, thread, and occasional profiling and contouring.
  • Clean and maintain machine, tooling, and parts to ensure optimal production condition.
  • Identify and replace damaged or worn tools as necessary.
  • Monitor machine operation to verify accuracy of settings and detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining; report issues.
  • Read prints and check part specifications using measuring tools to ensure accuracy.
  • Consult with machine shop supervisor for first article inspection for quality assurance.
  • Inspect work pieces throughout production to identify out-of-tolerance machining.
  • Assemble machined parts to verify function and guarantee quality.
  • Navigate controller screens to make offset adjustments as needed.
  • Recover machine from alarm scenarios.
  • Troubleshoot machine operation and run issues; communicate solutions to Machine Shop Supervisor and implement upon approval.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work station.
  • Perform effective start-up and shut-down procedures.
  • Accurately complete all documentation, work orders, travelers, and reject travelers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Related vocational or technical training required.
  • CNC Operator Certificate preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years as a machine operator required.

Skills

  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong functional and technical skills in operating CNC machinery.
  • Ability to effectively and safely use small hand and measuring tools such as calipers, deburring tools, and hand files.
  • Keen understanding of equipment controls and instrumentation.
  • General understanding of supply management, tooling, and inventory control.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use hand deburring tools to prep parts for the next operation.
  • Apply common sense to carry out written or oral instructions.
  • Understand scheduling process for shifts and machines.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in process improvement.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to function in high-pressure situations.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer.
  • Correctable vision and hearing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to move through a 20,000 square foot building.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods in front of production equipment.
  • Ability to stand and/or move around while performing job duties.
  • Ability to bend or reach when performing job duties.
