CNA - On-Call Days 6:00 am to 6:30 pm

About the Role

The certified nursing assistant provides quality nursing care to patients, implements specific procedures and programs, coordinates work within the department and with other departments, and assists the immediate supervisor with tasks to support department operations.

Responsibilities

• Provides quality nursing care to patients in an environment that promotes their rights, dignity, freedom of choice, and individuality.
• Is knowledgeable of the individualized care plan for patients and provides support according to their care plan.
• Contributes to the care planning process by providing specific information and observations of patients’ needs and preferences.
• Attends to individual needs of patients, including assistance with activities of daily living, feeding, toileting, transferring, ambulation, and communicating.
• Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of patients while delivering services.
• Interacts with patients in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment.
• Understands all aspects of patients’ rights, including the right to be free of restraints and abuse, and reports incidents or evidence of violations promptly.
• Assists in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment; reports environmental deficiencies such as lighting or equipment problems.
• Protects the personal belongings of each patient and reports missing items according to established policy.
• Observes patients for changes in condition or behavior and reports these changes to licensed nursing personnel.
• Answers patients’ call lights promptly and courteously.
• Performs tasks assigned by the charge nurse, including checking vital signs, glucometer checks, and collecting specimens.
• Lifts, moves, and transports patients using proper body mechanics or lifting devices for accident prevention.
• Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with patients, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
• Completes certified nursing assistant records documenting care provided in the electronic medical record per hospital policies.
• Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures, including hand washing, use of disposable gloves, and proper disposal of soiled materials.

Requirements

• CNA Certification
• High school diploma or equivalent
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Must be authorized to work in the United States

Physical Demands

• Frequently lifts objects and patients weighing more than 50 pounds.
• Must be able to exert at least 25 pounds of force to assist with patient moving.
• Very active role requiring standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day.
• Regularly required to talk and hear.
• Frequent repetitive motion of hands/wrist involved.
• Works in a clean, well-lighted area.
• May be required to deal with unpleasant environmental situations resulting from patient care or patient activity.
• Direct patient contact with possible exposure to communicable diseases, radiation, and CRT.
