About the Role

The certified nursing assistant provides quality nursing care to patients, implements specific procedures and programs, coordinates work within the department and with other departments, and assists the immediate supervisor with tasks to support department operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality nursing care to patients in an environment that promotes their rights, dignity, freedom of choice, and individuality.
  • Is knowledgeable of the individualized care plan for patients and provides support according to their care plan.
  • Contributes to the care planning process by providing specific information and observations of patients’ needs and preferences.
  • Attends to the individual needs of patients, including assistance with activities of daily living, feeding, toileting, transferring, ambulation, and communicating.
  • Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of patients while delivering services.
  • Understands all aspects of patients’ rights, including freedom from restraints and abuse, and reports violations promptly.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment; reports deficiencies such as lighting or equipment problems.
  • Protects patients’ personal belongings and reports missing items according to policy.
  • Observes patients for changes in condition or behavior and reports these changes to licensed nursing personnel.
  • Answers patients’ call lights promptly and courteously.
  • Performs tasks assigned by the charge nurse, including checking vital signs, glucometer checks, and collecting specimens.
  • Lifts, moves, and transports patients using proper body mechanics or lifting devices for accident prevention.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
  • Completes certified nursing assistant records documenting care in the electronic medical record per hospital policies.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with safety and infection control procedures, including hand washing, use of gloves, and proper disposal of soiled materials.
  • Participates in USPI’s EDGE™ program, which involves data collection and process improvement.
  • Complies with HIPAA standards for the use and disclosure of Protected Health Information.

Requirements

Physical Demands

  • Frequently lifts objects and patients weighing more than 50 pounds.
  • Must exert at least 25 pounds of force to assist with patient moving.
  • Very active role requiring standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Frequent repetitive motion of hands/wrists.
  • Works in a clean, well-lighted area.
  • May be exposed to unpleasant environmental situations resulting from patient care or activity.
  • Direct patient contact with possible exposure to communicable diseases, radiation, and CRT.

Must be authorized to work in the United States.
