Qualifications

  • Ability to chart using accepted medical terminology symbols and abbreviations
  • Correct spelling

  • Maintain and enforce confidentiality and respect patient, family, and peer rights

Licensure/Certification: Current Oregon CNA certification

Physical & Mental Demands

  • Withstand constant walking, standing, lifting at least 50 lbs. or more, push/pull regulation hospital equipment, occasional sitting
  • Function during periods of stress and exposure to trauma and/or disease
  • Possess requisite visual, auditory, and fine motor skills

Responsibilities

  • Follow department procedures for receiving and giving change of shift report
  • Make rounds on all assigned patients immediately after report
  • Maintain tidiness of patient rooms and “on-stage” public areas
  • Take full set of vital signs and other allowed observations per RN instructions; document results promptly and accurately
  • Immediately report significant vital signs and/or changes in vital signs to RN
  • Perform authorized procedures and assist patients with activities of daily living appropriate for age, developmental level, and condition
  • Demonstrate effective time management for assigned tasks
  • Demonstrate professionalism during all interactions with patients, medical staff, colleagues, and patient families/significant others
  • Ensure written communication is accurate, complete, legible, and channeled correctly in a timely manner
  • Answer telephone and patient calls promptly and courteously using proper etiquette
  • Take accurate telephone messages and follow up verbally and/or in writing on all calls in a timely manner
  • Report absences from unit and return time to assigned RN and Charge Nurse without fail
  • Maintain the dignity and confidentiality of patients and employees at all times
  • Consistently maintain a professional appearance and dress; wear name badge in accordance with hospital policy at all times
  • Inspire confidence from patients, visitors, and coworkers by performing in a quiet and unhurried manner
  • Provide patient care and perform tasks using job skills and growth and development knowledge specific to patient’s age and developmental level
  • Demonstrate awareness of cultural and spiritual practices of the customer(s)
  • Complete required hours of orthopedic education topics annually as directed by the Ortho Steering team for the Hip and Knee program certification
  • Meet clinical competencies of hip and knee certification program to directly care for a Hip and Knee patient
  • Perform other duties as assigned
