Duties and Responsibilities
- Answers call lights to determine patient needs.
- Answers patient’s questions, gives care as needed or alerts nurse.
- Performs morning and evening cares including baths, dressing, undressing, oral care, and personal hygiene.
- Prepares patients for meals, assists with meals, passes and collects trays.
- Feeds patients needing help, passes nourishments between meals, gives bedpans, urinals, and assists with toileting.
- Ambulates patients, gives back rubs, exercises, repositions patients, assists with transfers, and directs visitors.
- Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration rate, intake and output, and weights as directed.
- Reports all unusual conditions or reactions to nurse in charge.
- Keeps patient rooms neat and assists with running errands.
- Assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.
- Participates in team-oriented decision-making processes.
- Willing to be flexible and open to other's ideas, focusing on high customer satisfaction.
- Completes hourly rounding and every two-hour safety rounds as directed.
- May perform Unit Clerk duties as outlined in the Unit Clerk job description.
Key Accountability
- Regulatory and Departmental and Hospital Policy/Procedure Compliance
- Adheres to standard, goals, and procedures relating to the Compliance Program.
- Reports conduct that is known or suspected to be illegal or in violation of the organizational policy.
- Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, etc.
- Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Fulfills all required licenses and certifications.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA, and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g., Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste, and abuse.
- Brought any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.
- Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
