About the role
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to residents during the scheduled work period in long-term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Delivers age-appropriate care related to physical and psychological needs as per the care plan. A member of the nursing team, accountable for following infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use.
Responsibilities
- Assist with basic health care needs and daily living activities including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and obtaining and recording vital signs.
- Provide psychosocial support and personal care to assigned residents.
- Assist residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment; provide range of motion and passive exercises.
- Complete tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience; assist with meals, snacks, water, and supplements.
- Aid providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed.
- Document resident interactions, outcomes related to care, behavior, activity, and dietary.
- Communicate residents' changing conditions and care-related concerns/responses to the charge nurse.
- Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs.
- Provide housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents in maintaining clean living areas.
- Assist with and document wellness and recreational programs; encourage resident participation.
- May participate in departmental/organization committees and task forces.
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
- Minimum age of 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
- Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of hire by enrollment in a training program or obtaining certification through Endorsement.
- CNA training and certification provided by facility.
- Satisfactorily complete yearly department-specific competency testing and maintain continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
- Maintain all department-specific required certifications.
- When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry for applicable states.
- May require a motor vehicle report and valid driver’s license if role classifies as a Sanford Category II Driver; must be medically qualified to perform essential driving functions per Sanford Driving Policy.
Pay
$20.35 - $25.45 per hour, based on experience.
Schedule
- Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Evening shifts: 2:15 PM – 10:45 PM.
