Job Summary

Aids professional nursing personnel in providing patient care in assigned areas. Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides emotional support, and performs more complex clinical tasks under the supervision of nursing staff.

Essential Functions

• Consults with and informs supervisor about unit activities, needs, and issues related to patient care.
• Provides general nursing care such as positioning, lifting, turning, applying special equipment, assisting with bedpan, urinal, or commode use, ambulating, applying binder or antiembolic stockings, performing bed baths, oral/hair/back care, changing linens, straightening room, and other general care during shifts.
• Takes and records vital signs, weights, heights, blood pressures, and intake/output measurements accurately, documenting promptly.
• Maintains a clean, comfortable, and safe patient room environment.
• Assists with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, managing belongings and personal property.
• Answers call lights, telephones, and paging systems, responding appropriately.
• Absorbs and administers restraints to patients under RN direction.
• Maintains patient in proper position and alignment.
• Supports RN and LVN/LPN with complex patient treatments.
• Serves and removes patient meal trays, assists with feeding, and performs range of motion exercises.
• Attends interdisciplinary meetings to contribute to patient care plans.
• Documents restorative services according to facility policies and procedures.

• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to respond decisively and quickly in emergency situations.
• Effective communication with patients, families, and facility staff.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Fluent in English.
• Good and regular attendance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Valid certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of employment.
• CPR certification required.
• Six months experience in a long-term care setting preferred.
