About the role

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to residents during the scheduled work period in long-term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Delivers age-appropriate care related to physical and psychological needs as per the care plan. Follows infection prevention and control policies and uses Personal Protective Equipment. Accountable for assisting with basic health care needs, daily living activities, vital signs, psychosocial support, and personal care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and other daily living activities
  • Obtain and record vital signs
  • Assist residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment
  • Provide range of motion and passive exercises
  • Prepare food and assist with dining, creating a positive experience for residents
  • Assist residents with meals and snacks; provide water and supplements as appropriate
  • Aid providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed
  • Document resident interactions, care outcomes, behavior, activity, and dietary information
  • Communicate resident’s changing condition and care-related concerns to the charge nurse
  • Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs
  • Provide housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean living areas
  • Assist with and document wellness and recreational programs; encourage resident participation
  • Participate in departmental/organization committees and task forces as needed

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required
  • Minimum age of 16
  • Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of hire (training and certification provided by facility)
  • Satisfactorily complete yearly department-specific competency testing and maintain continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually)
  • Maintain all required certifications
  • When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry
  • May require a motor vehicle report and valid driver’s license if role classifies as a Sanford Category II Driver; must be medically qualified per Sanford Driving Policy

Schedule

  • Full-time, three 10-hour day shifts per week
  • Weekly hours: 30

Pay

  • Salary range: $18.50 - $25.50 per hour
  • $5,000 sign-on bonus
  • $2.50 per hour location premium
