About the role
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to residents during the scheduled work period in long-term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Delivers age-appropriate care related to physical and psychological needs as per the care plan. This role is a member of the nursing team and is accountable for following infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use.
Responsibilities
- Assist with basic health care needs, including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and obtaining/recording vital signs.
- Provide psychosocial support and personal care to assigned residents.
- Assist residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment; provide range of motion and passive exercises.
- Complete tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience.
- Assist residents with meals and snacks; provide water and supplements as appropriate.
- Aid providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed.
- Document resident interactions, care outcomes, behavior, activity, and dietary information.
- Communicate residents' changing conditions and care-related concerns to the charge nurse.
- Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs.
- Provide housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents in maintaining clean living areas.
- Assist with and document wellness and recreational programs; encourage resident participation.
- May participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces.
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED preferred but not required.
- Minimum age of 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing required; certification must be obtained within four months if not already certified (facility provides training and certification).
- Satisfactorily complete yearly department-specific competency testing and maintain continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
- Maintain all department-specific required certifications.
- When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
- May require a motor vehicle report and valid driver’s license if the role classifies as a Sanford Category II Driver; must be medically qualified per Sanford Driving Policy.
Pay
Salary range: $18.50 - $25.50 per hour
$5,000 sign-on bonus
$2.50 per hour location premium
Schedule
- Full-time position (40 hours per week).
- Four 10-hour day shifts.
