About the Role
The Certified Nursing Assistant assists physicians and nursing personnel in providing patient care to a specific patient population. Provides direct and indirect patient care duties under the guidance and direction of the Licensed Nurse.
Responsibilities
- Collects specimens, runs lab tests, performs EKGs, drug screen collection, and breath alcohol tests.
- Performs clerical duties as assigned.
- Participates in unit activities that enhance and promote quality patient care outcomes.
- Documents and submits required information and data in a timely fashion with accuracy and clarity.
- Demonstrates technical skill in using and maintaining equipment appropriate for the role.
- Treats patients and families with compassion and implements the plan of care.
- Monitors and documents patient response, adapting communication style to meet patient needs.
- Recognizes age-specific responses to treatment and provides effective interventions.
- Respects patients' confidentiality and privacy, supporting social, spiritual, and cultural needs.
- Manages difficult or emotional patient situations.
- Develops expected outcomes for continuity of care, involving patient/family and other disciplines.
- Modifies expected outcomes based on changes in patient assessment.
- Evaluates and documents the plan in relation to patient responses and expected outcomes.
- Adheres to hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
- Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility, including specialty certification requirements.
- Attends staff meetings, completes mandatory in-services, and meets competency evaluation requirements.
- Demonstrates competency in providing care based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
- Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (Required).
- Vocational/Technical Degree in Medical Field (Preferred).
- 1+ year of patient care experience in a healthcare setting (Preferred).
Qualifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Required).
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification (Required).
