About the Role

The Memory Care Center Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) is responsible for maintaining quality resident care in accordance with the Communities Policy and Procedure and federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines while ensuring the resident’s highest quality of life. This role operates under the direct supervision of the charge nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality nursing care to residents in an environment that promotes resident rights, dignity, individuality, and freedom of choice.
  • Answer residents' pull cords promptly and courteously.
  • Assist with all Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, and transferring per Individual Service Plan (ISP) and/or as needed.
  • Ensure resident concerns and/or grievances are reported immediately to the charge nurse.
  • Assist residents to activities and social programs and engage as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident information.
  • Recognize changes in resident condition and promptly report to the charge nurse.
  • Obtain vital signs and weights as ordered or assigned.
  • Report all accidents/incidents promptly and complete required paperwork.
  • Ensure safety regulations and precautions are followed at all times.
  • Perform any task as delegated within the scope of practice.
  • Maintain a professional image at all times.
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to obtain appropriate resolutions.
  • Develop and maintain open and trusting professional relationships with others.
  • Communicate support for other team members and the facility.
  • Conform to expected ethical and legal standards, including compliance with laws, regulations, and facility policies regarding resident abuse and neglect.
  • Participate and assist in departmental studies and projects as assigned.
  • Assist new employees and be open to new ideas and changes within the department or facility.
  • Perform all other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident information and promote residents' rights.
  • Active C.N.A. License in the state of Missouri.
  • Registered on the Family Care Registry.
  • Maintain appropriate appearance and personal hygiene.
  • No inclusion on the Employee Disqualification List.
  • Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Courteous, considerate, and cooperative in dealing with all community personnel.
  • Pass a drug screen urinalysis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with staff, residents, and visitors.
  • Maintain CPR certification.
  • Provide care while maintaining residents' dignity, privacy, and quality of life.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant License.

Physical Demands

  • Lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted, with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended lengths of time.
  • Function independently, with flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Meet general health requirements set forth by facility policies, including a medical and physical examination.
  • Relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.

Manual Dexterity: Medium, related to computer use, completion of reports, and use of adding machines.

Vision: Must possess the sense of sight or use prosthetics that enable this sense to function adequately for the position.

Oral Communication: Adequate to perform essential functions such as customer service, answering overhead pages, and answering telephones.

Hearing: Must possess the sense of hearing or use prosthetics that enable this sense to function adequately for communication with residents, family members, answering overhead pages, and telephones.

Environmental and Hazardous Requirements

  • Exposure to adverse environmental factors, including infectious waste, diseases, and conditions such as TB and the AIDS and HEP B viruses.
  • Moderate to high risk of exposure to blood, tissue, or bodily fluids, including infectious waste, diseases, and conditions such as TB and the AIDS and HEP B viruses.

Mental: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the Nursing Department.
