About the Role
The Resident Assistant/Personal Care Aide (PCA) provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living to residents of the community.
Responsibilities
- Reports incidents involving residents, including care concerns or issues, to appropriate individuals (e.g., HCD, RN/LPN, or ED).
- Maintains a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position.
- Assists residents with activities of daily living.
- Performs housekeeping duties, such as making resident beds, cleaning resident apartments, common areas, and dining room, as directed by supervisor.
- Responds promptly to all resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts.
- Remains calm and competent during emergencies.
- Assists in planning and conducting activity programs for residents.
- Follows confidentiality policies regarding release of resident information.
- Assists residents to and from the dining room and activities.
- Checks on residents, ensures attendance at meals and activities.
- Monitors residents who are ill and reports status or concerns to appropriate individuals.
- Communicates verbally and in writing to report resident status, upcoming community information, resident appointments, admissions, and transfers.
- Assists new residents with move-in transition and provides emotional support.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Successfully completed approved personal care aide program per state regulations as applicable.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel.
- Contributing member of the nursing team and follows instruction of supervisor.
- Polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co-workers at all times.
- Able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
- Able to lift 50 lbs, and push or carry 25 lbs.
- Able to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics.
- Must wear designated uniform during working hours, including name badge.
- CPR/First Aid certified, or willing to become certified within 60 days of hire.
- Represents the community in a positive and professional manner.
- Attends and completes all required in-services and staff meetings.
- Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
