About the Role

The Resident Assistant/Personal Care Aide (PCA) provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living to residents of the community.

Responsibilities

  • Reports incidents involving residents, including care concerns or issues, to appropriate individuals (e.g., HCD, RN/LPN, or ED).
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position.
  • Assists residents with activities of daily living.
  • Performs housekeeping duties, such as making resident beds, cleaning resident apartments, common areas, and dining room, as directed by supervisor.
  • Responds promptly to all resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts.
  • Remains calm and competent during emergencies.
  • Assists in planning and conducting activity programs for residents.
  • Follows confidentiality policies regarding release of resident information.
  • Assists residents to and from the dining room and activities.
  • Checks on residents, ensures attendance at meals and activities.
  • Monitors residents who are ill and reports status or concerns to appropriate individuals.
  • Communicates verbally and in writing to report resident status, upcoming community information, resident appointments, admissions, and transfers.
  • Assists new residents with move-in transition and provides emotional support.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Successfully completed approved personal care aide program per state regulations as applicable.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel.
  • Contributing member of the nursing team and follows instruction of supervisor.
  • Polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co-workers at all times.
  • Able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs, and push or carry 25 lbs.
  • Able to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics.
  • Must wear designated uniform during working hours, including name badge.
  • CPR/First Aid certified, or willing to become certified within 60 days of hire.
  • Represents the community in a positive and professional manner.
  • Attends and completes all required in-services and staff meetings.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
