Assists Physicians and nursing personnel in providing patient care to a specific patient population. Provides direct and indirect patient care duties under the guidance and direction of the Licensed Nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Collects specimens, runs lab tests, performs EKGs, Drug screen collection, and Breath Alcohols.
  • Performs clerical duties as assigned.
  • Participates in unit activities that enhance and promote quality patient care outcomes in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Patient Care Services.
  • Documents and submits required information and data in a timely fashion.
  • Clearly and accurately documents designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc., ensuring documentation is tailored to expected readers/users, uses correct terminology, and conforms to required style and format.
  • Demonstrates technical skill in using equipment appropriate for role; understands equipment operation, maintains equipment in working order, troubleshoots problems, and uses technology to increase productivity.
  • Treats patients and families with compassion and implements plan of care; bases care decisions on plan of care, monitors and documents patient response, establishes rapport, adapts communication style, and respects confidentiality and privacy.
  • Supports social, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and families; manages difficult or emotional patient situations.
  • Develops expected outcomes that provide direction for continuity of care; involves patient/family and other disciplines, modifies outcomes based on changes in patient assessment, and evaluates the plan in relation to patient responses and expected outcomes.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission, and vision of the organization.
  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility, including any specialty certification requirements through self-education and ongoing educational programs.
  • Attends staff meetings, completes mandatory in-services, requirements, and competency evaluations on time.
  • Demonstrates competency in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Vocational / Technical Degree in Medical Field (Preferred)
  • 1+ year Patient Care Experience in a health care setting (Preferred)

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Required)
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification (Required)
