Assists Physicians and nursing personnel in providing patient care to a specific patient population. Provides direct and indirect patient care duties under the guidance and direction of the Licensed Nurse.
Responsibilities
- Collects specimens, runs lab tests, performs EKGs, Drug screen collection, and Breath Alcohols.
- Performs clerical duties as assigned.
- Participates in unit activities that enhance and promote quality patient care outcomes in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Patient Care Services.
- Documents and submits required information and data in a timely fashion.
- Clearly and accurately documents designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc., ensuring documentation is tailored to expected readers/users, uses correct terminology, and conforms to required style and format.
- Demonstrates technical skill in using equipment appropriate for role; understands equipment operation, maintains equipment in working order, troubleshoots problems, and uses technology to increase productivity.
- Treats patients and families with compassion and implements plan of care; bases care decisions on plan of care, monitors and documents patient response, establishes rapport, adapts communication style, and respects confidentiality and privacy.
- Supports social, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and families; manages difficult or emotional patient situations.
- Develops expected outcomes that provide direction for continuity of care; involves patient/family and other disciplines, modifies outcomes based on changes in patient assessment, and evaluates the plan in relation to patient responses and expected outcomes.
- Adheres to hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
- Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission, and vision of the organization.
- Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility, including any specialty certification requirements through self-education and ongoing educational programs.
- Attends staff meetings, completes mandatory in-services, requirements, and competency evaluations on time.
- Demonstrates competency in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
- Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Vocational / Technical Degree in Medical Field (Preferred)
- 1+ year Patient Care Experience in a health care setting (Preferred)
Qualifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Required)
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification (Required)
