Responsibilities
- Perform field tests according to prescribed procedures and standards.
- Collect soil and concrete samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary reports.
- Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare reports and technical data.
- Operate computer systems and peripheral equipment; maintain results log.
- Set up, maintain, and calibrate equipment.
- Confer with Engineering staff on test efforts.
- Inspect construction activities on heavy highway construction projects.
- Monitor work performed by contractors or vendors.
- Ensure materials used on projects meet specifications.
- Inspect common, unclassified and roadway excavation, embankment, borrow pits, and removal, storage, and placement of topsoil.
- Complete appropriate forms and paperwork for construction activities completed each day.
- Maintain considerable contact with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Work with other task team members and leaders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Moves a case weighing up to 95 pounds.
- Pushes up to 250 pounds in a wheelbarrow.
- Remains in a stationary position for extended periods.
- Operates tools requiring fine motor skills.
- Traverses construction sites having uneven terrain, slopes, confined spaces, or reinforced trenches.
- Positions self to access tools and materials in various locations.
- Conducts visual assessments of construction quality and safety.
Qualifications
- Experience and/or certifications related to construction inspection or construction materials testing preferred but not required.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate a motor vehicle is required.
- Must pass background check and drug screening.
- Must pass the following exam within 60 days of employment (if not currently held): Nuclear Density Safety Course.
Benefits
Full-time position with standard business hours; occasional night work or overtime may be required based on project deadlines. Must be able to work onsite at a WSB office, as needed, as required by the project, client, or hiring manager. Primarily field-based role must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
