This role works closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure accurate dimensional inspection, robust product qualification, and efficient resolution of quality issues in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review new product designs and recommend the most effective measurement processes using a variety of tools, including hand measurement tools, custom fixtures, visual inspection systems, and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs).
  • Create detailed measurement plans and processes for new product designs, ensuring they are accurate, repeatable, and practical for use in a high-volume production environment.
  • Perform new product qualification activities, including First Article Inspection, gage repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R) studies, and capability studies to validate measurement systems and production processes.
  • Program and operate CMMs to perform dimensional inspections, ensuring compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.
  • Support production and quality assurance activities to keep production flowing efficiently and disposition nonconforming material effectively.
  • Troubleshoot CMM programs and measurement issues, identify root causes of inspection or dimensional problems, and implement corrective actions.
  • Continuously improve measurement procedures, inspection methods, and documentation to enhance accuracy, throughput, and ease of use on the production floor.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing personnel to interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications and translate them into robust measurement plans.
  • Assist with disposition of problem material by providing accurate measurement data, analysis, and recommendations.
  • Apply statistical process control (SPC) and other data analysis techniques to monitor process capability and support ongoing quality improvements.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience as a CMM Technician in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications to develop effective measurement plans.
  • Deep understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), including standards such as ASME Y14.5.
  • Proficiency in programming and operating CMMs from manufacturers such as OPG, Zeiss, and Mitutoyo.
  • Hands-on experience using CMM software such as Zone3, PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar platforms.
  • Solid knowledge of dimensional metrology principles and practices.
  • Experience conducting gage repeatability and reproducibility (R&R) studies.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and its application in production environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot CMM programs and measurement processes effectively.
  • Capability to wear required personal protective equipment, including bump cap, hearing protection, safety glasses, and safety-toed shoes.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) is preferred.
  • Experience working with molded metal components is a plus.
  • Familiarity with visual inspection systems, hand measurement tools, and custom fixtures used in dimensional inspection.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills when evaluating measurement data and process capability.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement in measurement methods, inspection procedures, and quality systems.

Work Environment

This position operates in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment focused on small, injection molded metal components. The role is typically on a day shift schedule, Monday through Friday. Work involves frequent use of CMMs and related software (such as Zone3, PC-DMIS, and Calypso), as well as hand measurement tools, visual inspection systems, and custom fixtures. Employees wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including bump cap, hearing protection, safety glasses, and safety-toed shoes.
