About the role

CMM Programmers/Operators are responsible for operating/programming a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and other measurement equipment in an automotive manufacturing plant. The work involves analyzing specifications, setting up gauges or fixtures according to released part GD&T, creating and executing measurement programs to validate part quality, interpreting technical documents, planning operation sequences, and providing detailed reports.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze specifications, blueprints, manuals, and sketches to set up and operate CMM programs
  • Create measurement programs using computer-aided design (CAD) knowledge
  • Plan the sequence of operations and materials required
  • Interpret and verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts
  • Operate conventional or CNC measurement equipment with PC-DMIS or PolyWorks software
  • Perform tests on completed tools to ensure they meet specifications and make adjustments if necessary
  • Lift, position, and secure machine parts on surface plates or worktables using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates
  • Measure, mark, and scribe metal or plastic stock to lay out measurements
  • Design jigs, fixtures, and templates for proper alignment schemes reflecting prescribed GD&T
  • Provide detailed reports summarizing measurement results
  • Communicate effectively and solve problems
  • Perform incidental tasks as required to complete larger tasks

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Minimum 4 years of combined experience and training as a CMM programmer/operator
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics, algebra, and physics
  • Experience as a CMM programmer/operator in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work any shift, including overtime, weekends, and holidays
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift, position, and secure machine parts
  • Ability to visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances
  • Ability to operate and set up measurement equipment
  • Ability to perform tests and adjust as necessary
  • Ability to design and use jigs, fixtures, and templates
  • Ability to perform incidental tasks as required

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics, algebra, and physics
  • Experience as a CMM programmer/operator in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work any shift and overtime
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift, position, and secure machine parts
  • Ability to visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances
  • Ability to operate and set up measurement equipment
  • Ability to perform tests and adjust as necessary
  • Ability to design and use jigs, fixtures, and templates
  • Ability to perform incidental tasks as required

Skills

  • Knowledge of G-Suite
  • Experience with portable measurement equipment (ATOS, Leica Laser Tracker, Faro Arms, etc.)
