Responsibilities

QA/QC Inspector 1 ($49,600 - $76,700)

• Learn job skills and become familiar with Laboratory policies in order to complete assignments
• Apply basic skills related to dimensional inspection, including the use and interpretation of engineering drawings, sketches, specifications, and related data to perform in-process and final inspection of machined components
• Work within a team environment with good written and verbal communication skills
• Receive specific and detailed directions from senior inspectors; work is closely supervised

QA/QC Inspector 2 ($54,900 - $84,300)

• Perform high accuracy and high precision dimensional inspection of average complexity machined components
• Perform inspections using conventional inspection tools like calipers and micrometers, in addition to performing inspections using coordinate measuring machines (CMM) that are programmed by a more experienced inspector
• Prepare inspection reports and continuously inform others of inspection results
• Begin to work more independently

Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

• Basic knowledge of metrology and dimensional inspection methods that require you to apply shop mathematics, English-Metric unit conversions, and trigonometry
• Ability to learn and properly utilize inspection tools including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges and other manually operated inspection equipment
• Basic knowledge of manufacturing techniques and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
• Proficiency with basic computer programs such as Adobe Acrobat, MS Office, and Outlook
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Additional Requirements for QA/QC Inspector 2:

• Demonstrated experience with metrology and dimensional inspection equipment and tools

• Demonstrated experience with Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles, theories, and concepts
• Demonstrated experience working with CMMs following a well-developed process to include part fixturing, the loading of a part program and following the process through the completion of an inspection

Qualifications

Education/Experience at QA/QC Level 1: High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year of related experience.

Education/Experience at QA/QC Level 2: High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience or a combination of equivalent education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Work Location

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management. The selected applicant is required to work on-site.

Position Commitment

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance and Drug Test

This position requires a Q clearance. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens.
