About the role
We serve the health care needs of the people of Memphis and the Mid-South. This position involves providing care in a medical clinic under the direction of a provider, performing administrative tasks, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and assisting patients.
Responsibilities
- Performs receptionist, clerical and data entry activities related to patient care such as scheduling appointments and Diagnostic Imaging exams, lab call backs, prior authorizations, retrieving medical histories, filling out patient paperwork and forms and answering and returning phone calls.
- Proactively assists patients throughout the visit as needed, accompanies patients to the exam/procedure room.
- Responds to patient needs in a professional and friendly manner.
- Collections and records patient data including height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure, and basic information about the presenting and previous conditions.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment and provides patients with information.
- Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in The Methodist Mission, Vision and Values.
Requirements
- Required - High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred - Technical Degree or Diploma Medical Assistant
- Required - 3-5 years Medical Assistant or similar work experience
- Required - HEARTSAVER - American Heart Association
- Required - Nationally Certified Medical Assistant - National Association of Health Professionals
- Preferred - NCCT Medical Assistant - National Center for Competency Testing
- Preferred - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant - National Healthcareer Association
- Preferred - AAMA Certified Medical Assistant - The American Association of Medical Assistants
- Preferred - AMT Registered Medical Assistant - American Medical Technologists
- Preferred - BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association
Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work with patients, patient families, nurse practitioners, and physicians in a tactful and professional manner.
- Satisfies applicable competency assessments and skills checklist for Level 2; demonstrates proficiency in all measured areas.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated computer skills and ability to navigate the EMR software with appropriate documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to review computer reports following evidenced based guidelines.
- Demonstrated proficiency in motivational interviewing and teach back method techniques.
- Ability to act quickly in emergency situations.
Skills
