About the Role

The Clinical Staff (CMA, General Clinic CST, or LPN I) are multi-skilled health professionals who work interdependently with other healthcare professionals to provide quality healthcare to patients. They perform both administrative and clinical skills with the goal of optimizing outcomes and improving the quality of life for patients through efficient, cost-effective care.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to telephone inquiries and patient calls promptly.
  • Notify patients of test results in a timely manner per clinic/department policy.
  • Provide a clean and comfortable environment for patients.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and follow-up injections (if applicable).
  • Greet and verify patients, following patient verification protocol.
  • Obtain and record medical histories, allergies, medications, and vital signs accurately.
  • Order, collect, and prepare laboratory specimens as needed.
  • Explain treatment procedures and ensure proper consents are signed.
  • Draw up and/or administer injections as ordered by the physician.
  • Perform vial testing for follow-up patients per department protocol.
  • Assist the physician during examinations and procedures.
  • Provide educational materials and aftercare instructions.
  • Prepare and apply dressings, clean and dress wounds, and remove staples or sutures as ordered.
  • Take photographs, order x-rays, and respond to prescription requests/refills.
  • Perform post-operative follow-up calls, including responding to prescription requests and providing aftercare instructions.
  • Accurately document patient history, injections, and patient education per clinic policy.
  • Input charges, notes, and other data into electronic medical records (TouchWorks).
  • E-fax and call in prescriptions, monitor and complete daily clinical tasks.
  • Maintain rooms, equipment, and supplies, including cleaning rooms, changing linens, and sterilizing equipment.
  • Dispose of biohazard material per clinic policy and maintain inventory of clinical supplies.
  • Ensure patient and staff safety by following OSHA guidelines, universal precautions, and clinic policies.
  • Assist with ambulation and lifting/transferring patients as needed.
  • Proactively assist in the fiscal management of clinic resources, including maintaining supply par levels and avoiding rush orders.
  • Work collaboratively to promote an increase in clinic patient volume and expand clinic services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting, Surgical Tech, or Practical Nursing Program.
  • Current certification or licensure with no restrictions (CMA, CST, or LPN).
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Knowledge of infection control, sterile technique, and basic health and safety precautions.
  • Use and apply medical terminology appropriately.
  • Thorough knowledge of general clinical principles, methodology, and outcome measures.
  • Administrative skills necessary to effectively manage office practice.
  • Ability to stand for up to eight hours a day, bend, reach, squat, kneel, and move/lift patients and/or equipment up to 50 lbs.
