About the Role
The Clinical Staff (CMA, General Clinic CST, or LPN I) are multi-skilled health professionals who work interdependently with other healthcare professionals to provide quality healthcare to patients. They perform both administrative and clinical skills with the goal of optimizing outcomes and improving the quality of life for patients through efficient, cost-effective care.
Responsibilities
- Respond to telephone inquiries and patient calls promptly.
- Notify patients of test results in a timely manner per clinic/department policy.
- Provide a clean and comfortable environment for patients.
- Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and follow-up injections (if applicable).
- Greet and verify patients following patient verification protocol.
- Provide high-level customer service and accurately obtain/record medical histories, allergies, medications, and vital signs.
- Order, collect, and prepare laboratory specimens as needed.
- Explain treatment procedures and ensure proper consents are signed.
- Draw up and/or administer injections as ordered by the physician.
- Perform vial testing for follow-up patients per department protocol.
- Assist the physician during examinations and procedures.
- Provide educational materials and aftercare instructions.
- Prepare and supply proper equipment, dressings, and wound care as directed.
- Take photographs, remove staples or sutures, and prepare/administer medications.
- Order x-rays and cultures, and respond to prescription requests/refills.
- Escort patients to secretaries, patient access service associates, or financial counselors.
- Prepare pathology forms, labels, logs, and records per policy.
- Recognize and respond to emergencies per policy.
- Perform administrative duties, including accurate documentation of patient history, injections, and education.
- Input charges, notes, and other data into electronic medical records (TouchWorks).
- E-fax and call in prescriptions, and monitor/complete daily clinical tasks.
- Make post-operative follow-up calls, provide aftercare instructions, and respond to prescription requests.
- Maintain rooms, equipment, and supplies:
- Clean rooms and change linens per clinic policy.
- Dispose of biohazard material and sterilize equipment per established protocols.
- Assist with ordering and stocking clinical supplies.
- Perform inventory of products and prepare reports as requested.
- Ensure maintenance of equipment and review department stock medications.
- Ensure patient and staff safety:
- Follow OSHA guidelines and universal precautions.
- Use PPE as directed and follow all clinic policies.
- Provide wheelchairs and assist patients with ambulation; ask for assistance when needed for lifting or transferring patients.
- Assist in fiscal management of clinic resources:
- Maintain established par levels on supplies.
- Avoid unnecessary rush orders or overnight shipping fees.
- Notify manager of downtime to maximize productivity.
- Work collaboratively to promote clinic growth:
- Assist physicians, department managers, and marketing directors as needed.
- Look for ways to expand clinic services and patient volume.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting, Surgical Tech, or Practical Nursing Program.
- Current certification or licensure with no restrictions (CMA, CST, or LPN).
- Current BLS Certification.
- Knowledge of infection control, sterile technique, and basic health and safety precautions.
- Use and apply medical terminology appropriately.
- Thorough knowledge of general clinical principles, methodology, and outcome measures.
- Administrative skills necessary to effectively manage office practice.
- Ability to stand for up to eight hours a day, bend, reach, squat, kneel, and move/lift patients and/or equipment up to 50 lbs.
