Cluster Substitute Teacher - [Mason Elementary] - (SY26-27)

About the Role

Boston Public Schools (BPS) seeks an exceptional Cluster Substitute Teacher to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders. This role is ideal for educators who desire to serve where their efforts matter, working in an environment that supports creativity, innovation, and respects their skills and abilities. Cluster Substitute Teachers are assigned to a single school to cover teacher absences for ten days or fewer per absence, with assignments subject to change daily.

Reports to: Principal/Head of School of the assigned school.

Responsibilities

• Accountability for Student Achievement:

  • Assesses students’ understanding regularly with ambitious learning goals in mind and takes ownership of making necessary adjustments to instruction to reach goals despite setbacks.

  • Demonstrates mastery of and enthusiasm for content area and the pedagogy it requires.

  • Scaffolds and differentiates instruction to enable all students to engage in complex thinking and rigorous academic work.
  • Uses instructional practices that challenge, motivate, and engage all students while facilitating equitable, active participation.

  • Actively creates and maintains an environment where students’ diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected.

Requirements

• Minimum of an undergraduate college/university degree.
• Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.
• Successfully complete a screening interview with the BPS Office of Human Resources.
• Pass a CORI/SORI criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications

• Massachusetts Teaching License in assigned content and grade level, including SEI Endorsement if applicable.
• Experience in a school or community setting working with children or young adults.
• Experience teaching in urban schools.
• Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali.

Schedule

The start and end times of BPS schools vary, as do the lengths of the school day. Some schools have a longer day through the "Schedule A" Expanded Learning Time (ELT) agreement.
