About the Role

Monitors, assesses, organizes and coordinates the daily activities of co-workers to ensure a smooth and continuous Laboratory workflow overall, or within an assigned area.

Responsibilities

  • Staff scheduling, arranging coverage for staff absences, assigning work, prioritizing work, directing problem-solving and troubleshooting.
  • Ensuring shift-to-shift continuity and managing customer complaints or inquiries.
  • Leading the development and implementation of new policies, procedures, and protocols to streamline workflow, improve efficiency, and enhance the safety and reliability of testing.
  • Training and assessing the competency of co-workers.
  • Providing guidance and direction to staff for accurate, timely, and efficient completion of instrument maintenance, quality control, non-conforming event management, and records management.
  • Overseeing PT survey testing and troubleshooting.
  • Providing constructive feedback and recognition to peers, reinforcing Sutter's values and focusing the team’s efforts on providing safe, reliable care.
  • Serving as the liaison between Clinical Laboratory Manager and staff, physicians, patients, family, and other hospital staff; leading communication huddles and structured team meetings (e.g., Daily Engagement).
  • Routinely performing all duties of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in one or more areas of the Laboratory.
  • Adhering to all local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure patient privacy and maintain the highest level of safety and reliability in testing.
  • Workflow management, including organizing and coordinating team responses to fluctuations in volume, unexpected situations, shift-to-shift hand-offs, STAT test orders, and specimen integrity issues.
  • Guiding the team to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology or related science.
  • One of the following certifications/licensures based on the department supported:
    • CLSPCG – Clinical Cytogeneticist Scientist License
    • CGMBSL – Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist License
    • CHSL – Clinical Hematologist Scientist License
    • CHSL – Clinical Histocompatibility Scientist License
    • CISL – Clinical Immunohematologist Scientist License
    • CMS – Clinical Microbiologist Scientist License
    • CTSL – Clinical Toxicologist Scientist License
    • CRBSL – Clinical Reproductive Biologist Scientist License
    • CLS – Clinical Lab Scientist Generalist
  • 8 years of recent relevant experience.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated knowledge and technical competence in routine specimen collection, preparation, testing applications, laboratory operations, and quality assurance in one or more assigned clinical specialty areas (e.g., Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Transfusion Service).
  • Competence in monitoring, assessing, organizing, coordinating, and prioritizing workflow, training, assessing competency, providing direction to co-workers, and complex operational problem-solving in real-time.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and recognition to peers, reinforcing Sutter’s values and focusing the team’s efforts on providing safe, reliable care.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for self and team, completing work within expected timeframes.
  • Ability to guide the team to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving relevant to own duties and the duties of the team.
  • Ability to compassionately and effectively interact with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs, and behaviors.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring patient privacy and safety.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Shift: Days, 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday.
  • Weekend requirements: None.

Pay

Pay range is $77.03 to $107.84 per hour. The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs.
