Cloud & Workflow Automation Engineer
Position Overview
KBR is seeking a Cloud & Workflow Automation Engineer in Sioux Falls, SD, to support the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center. This is a full-time, onsite position requiring consistent, in-person collaboration with team members, scientists, and mission partners. This position supports the General Processing Control System, the platform responsible for orchestrating mission-critical workflows and operational services that enable Landsat data processing.
Core Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain workflow automation and orchestration services
- Develop and support production applications using Python and Bash scripting
- Design, deploy, and maintain Argo Workflows operating within Kubernetes environments
- Develop and support cloud-native applications and services
- Build and enhance operational user interfaces using Angular, TypeScript, and JavaScript
- Support CI/CD pipeline implementation and automation initiatives
- Troubleshoot workflow, orchestration, infrastructure, and application issues
- Develop, execute, and document testing activities
- Collaborate closely with Systems Engineers, Software Engineers, DevOps practitioners, and mission stakeholders
Education & Skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience: Seven or more years of professional software engineering experience.
- Experience: Developing and maintaining Python-based applications.
- Experience: Working in Kubernetes environments.
- Experience: Supporting cloud-native systems and deployment pipelines.
- Experience: Working in Linux/Unix environments.
Special Requirements
- Three years of continuous residency in the United States for issuance of a Government Security credential.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation for facility access.
Desired Skills
- Angular development experience.
- TypeScript and JavaScript expertise.
- AWS cloud experience.
- AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
- Infrastructure as Code experience.
- DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering practices.
- Scientific, geospatial, or mission-critical operational systems experience.
- Experience with AI-assisted software development and documentation tools.
