Cloud Automation Engineer

Within IS, the cloud engineers are responsible and accountable for the engineering and operation of the Allstate cloud platforms, which include multiple public cloud environments, continuous integration and continuous delivery tools, and pipelines that enforce security and operational standards.
The Cloud Provisioning Engineer will design and build opinionated, secure cloud environments and platforms for Allstate, automating public cloud services through CI/CD pipelines used by infrastructure and application teams. They will partner with consumers of the cloud platforms to align applications with standards and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Write and maintain Python applications that automate the provisioning and management of cloud environments.
- Build opinionated cloud environments and platforms aligned with business and security strategies and requirements.
- Design standards and automate the deployment of software in cloud environments.
- Create cloud patterns and reusable infrastructure modules for AWS and Azure.
- Troubleshoot complex cloud provisioning, security, and deployment issues.
- Partner with application teams to help them adopt cloud engineering best practices.
- Lead technical initiatives and mentor other engineers on cloud automation and Infrastructure as Code.
- Work primarily in an Extreme Programming environment, including paired programming/engineering.
- Contribute to the strategy and design of continuous integration and continuous delivery frameworks and tools.
- Define and develop new "as-a-service" products and services that are user-centric.
Requirements
- Expert-level Python development experience with the ability to design, build, test, and maintain production-grade cloud automation systems.
- Extensive experience building cloud infrastructure solutions in AWS and/or Azure.
- Deep understanding of Infrastructure as Code principles, including hands-on experience with Terraform, OpenTofu, CloudFormation, or similar platforms.
- Experience designing and supporting CI/CD pipelines that provision, configure, and manage cloud infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of cloud networking, identity and access management, security controls, compute, storage, and platform architecture.
- Proven ability to diagnose and solve complex technical problems across application, infrastructure, and cloud domains.
- Experience developing reusable automation frameworks, APIs, libraries, and tooling such as boto3 and the Azure SDK.
- Ability to lead technical discussions, mentor engineers, establish engineering standards, and drive adoption of cloud engineering best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4+ years of application development and infrastructure engineering experience.
- Able to mentor teams across various engineering practices, including extreme programming, product mindset, cloud/as-a-service approach, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Hands-on style with a willingness and competence to make necessary changes in infrastructure and processes.
- Able to work in diverse teams, multitask, and work under pressure to meet aggressive schedule targets.
- Able to work effectively across organizational and geographical boundaries.
- Identify creative solutions for technical challenges.
- Ability to communicate effectively across groups of diverse backgrounds and present ideas and solutions.

Pay
Compensation offered for this role is $98,100.00 - $167,850.00 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
