Cloud Platform Software Engineer — Global Connected Vehicle Platform
About the role
The Cloud Platform Software Engineer will architect and code multiple mission-critical cloud platform components and APIs that power Ford’s connected vehicle ecosystem. They will own end-to-end delivery of software services on modern cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP & Kubernetes), scaling and optimizing high-performance, resilient, and event-driven microservices capable of handling massive, real-time data streams. They will collaborate and innovate with product managers, technical leaders, and cross-functional teams in an agile environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and support cloud platform components and APIs
- Take ownership of software services from initial design to deployment and production operations
- Build high-performance, resilient, and event-driven microservices
- Champion clean code, Test-Driven Development (TDD), robust API design, and comprehensive load/performance testing
- Partner closely with product managers, technical leaders, and cross-functional teams
- Implement proactive monitoring, alerting, and performance-management strategies
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, developing, and operating high-performance, cloud-based platforms and microservices
- 5+ years in roles requiring proven expertise in Java and Spring Boot
- 5+ years in roles hands-on experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS or GCP) and container orchestration (Kubernetes)
- 5+ years' experience building event-driven systems using Kafka (or cloud equivalents like Pub/Sub) and working with relational/non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)
- 5+ years demonstrating technical proficiency with modern DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub, ArgoCD, SonarQube) to ensure secure and efficient delivery
- 5+ years' experience in roles demonstrating a strong commitment to writing clean, maintainable code with experience in TDD and API performance/load testing
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field (optional)
- Experience with advanced GCP/AWS cloud-native tools (e.g., Cloud Run, Spanner, Cloud Functions, Cloud Scheduler, GKE/EKS, Terraform) (optional)
- Deep understanding of API gateway technologies (e.g., Apigee, Tyk) and protocols (gRPC, WebSockets, REST, JSON) (optional)
- Experience with GitOps and advanced deployment strategies (e.g., Canary deployments, Tekton, ArgoCD) (optional)
- Experience supporting critical, "always-on" applications in high-throughput, low-latency production environments (optional)
- Ability to make data-informed architectural decisions, even when dealing with imperfect or incomplete data (optional)

Pay
This position is a salary grade 6-8 and ranges from $85,400-$232,700. Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
Schedule
This position is a hybrid. Candidates who are within commuting distance to a Ford hub location may be required to be onsite four or more days per week.
