Cloud Network Engineer
About the role
You will support a lead role in the design, deployment, maintenance, and optimization of cloud infrastructure, ensuring network performance and security are maintained at optimal levels. Working on a team consisting of Cloud Architects, Engineers, and Administrators supporting the enterprise, you will be responsible for the following:
- Design, plan, and establish cloud networks using various cloud providers like AWS and Google Cloud.
- Design network architectures considering high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability.
- Configure Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), subnets, transit gateways, VPN connections, and other cloud network components.
- Analyze cloud network traffic patterns and optimize for performance.
- Collaborate with other teams to ensure applications are using network resources efficiently.
- Implement Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), load balancers, and other strategies to optimize user access.
- Install, maintain, and evaluate network systems and communications, and troubleshoot the most complex network issues.
- Conduct research and analysis regarding new technology, network traffic, and potential security risks.
- Lead the network architecture design and optimization.
- Work on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state-of-the-art technical or industry knowledge. May provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in the area of specialization.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Cloud Network Engineer role and a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field. OR minimum of 9 years of experience in a Cloud Network Engineer role.
- Experience focused on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS components and associated networking tools and services, such as AWS VPC, Azure Virtual Network, or GCP Cloud VPC.
- Experience in working with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform, Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.
- Familiarity with containerization (e.g., Docker) and orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of IP networking, VPNs, DNS, load balancing, and firewalls.
- Familiarity with standard IT security practices such as encryption, certificates, and key management.
- Cloud-specific certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Network Engineer, or Google Cloud Professional Network Engineer.
- Network-related certifications such as Cisco CCNA or CCNP, Juniper's JNCIA or JNCIS, or CompTIA Network+.
- Must be eligible to obtain a Department of Homeland Security EOD clearance (Requirements: 1. US Citizenship, 2. Favorable Background Investigation).
Desired Qualifications
- DHS EOD clearance (1st priority).
- Any DHS badge + DoD Top Secret or Secret clearance (2nd choice).
- DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance + willingness to obtain EOD clearance (3rd choice).
