Cloud Hardware Development Engineer, AWS Networking NPD Interconnects Team
About the role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best practices application, optimization, internal/external customer interactions, and produce appropriate technical documentation.
- Collaborate with vendors/manufacturers to evaluate new hardware and software features and create implementation plans for incorporating them into the network.
- Automate optic, AEC, DAC test plans and qualify pluggable modules.
- Collaborate with vendors/manufacturers in defining and developing test plans for pluggable modules.
- Work with the network operations team in identifying operational issues and improving quality and RMA processes.
- Understand the growing AWS network and internal customers' requirements on interconnect solutions, working backward to devise hardware solutions by influencing the broad industry and/or developing software tools with sister teams to maintain a highly available network.
- Design and implement processes and mechanisms that deliver business impact while raising the bar on operational excellence.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
- 1+ years of network cabling, optic types, and test equipment experience.
- 1+ years of experience with optical systems, optical transceivers, and transmission systems.
- 1+ years of experience developing test scripts for optics validation and characterization.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or Masters preferred.
- Expertise in hardware and systems design and development.
- Expertise in debugging and troubleshooting.
- Experience writing software that controls network routing functions.
About the team
Within AWS Networking, the NPD (Network Product Development) organization is responsible for designing the hardware, building the software, and owning the interconnects for the routers that power the global AWS network. Beyond product delivery, we actively manage the fleet of routers in a network that grows by 70% annually. This includes tracking key business and operational metrics to ensure smooth operation and minimize or eliminate customer impact due to device-related issues for a transparent AWS customer experience.
Pay
USA, CA, Cupertino - $126,100.00 - $185,000.00 USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
