About the role

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. The IntraRack team is looking for a Cloud Hardware Development Engineer to join our Network Product Development (NPD) team. As a CHDE, you will build, deploy, and scale the Amazon networks that support AWS, customers, and other business units across multiple global data centers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best practices application, optimization, and internal/external customer interactions.
  • Produce appropriate technical documentation.
  • Drive product development activities and plans with customers, peers, and suppliers.
  • Troubleshoot problems related to optical and electrical high-speed links, ASIC, and DSP interoperability.
  • Collaborate with vendors/manufacturers to evaluate and test new hardware and software features, then create implementation plans for incorporating them into network workflows.
  • Automate optical and electrical test plans and qualify optical and electrical modules.
  • Collaborate with vendors/manufacturers in defining and developing test plans for optical/electrical modules.
  • Work with the network operations team to identify operational issues and improve quality and RMA processes.
  • Design and implement processes and mechanisms to deliver business impact systematically while raising the bar on operational excellence.
  • Develop simple solutions to complex problems, considering cost, performance, and reliability from a customer perspective.
  • Work closely with internal partners to ensure solutions meet their needs and exceed expectations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of verification experience, preferably in communication systems.
  • 4+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems, and systems.
  • 2+ years of negotiations and vendor management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience developing test scripts for transceiver module validation and characterization.
  • 2+ years of experience in system integration for servers and GPU high-speed connectivities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell, and/or Perl.
  • PhD or Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Expertise in hardware and systems design and development.
  • Experience debugging and troubleshooting optical and electrical transceiver or link issues.
  • Experience working with ODM and CM suppliers of transceiver modules.
  • Experience in the transceiver development lifecycle.
  • Proven track record of innovating or inventing transceiver solutions.
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.

About the team

Within AWS Networking, the NPD (Network Product Development) organization designs the hardware, builds the software, and owns the interconnects for the routers that power the global AWS network. Beyond product delivery, we actively manage the fleet of routers in a network that grows by 70% annually. This involves tracking key business and operational metrics to ensure smooth operation and minimize or eliminate customer impact due to device-related issues.

Pay

Base salary range: $157,300.00 - $212,800.00 USD annually (USA, CA, Cupertino). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
