Cloud Engineering Advisor
Senior technical lead responsible for designing, building, and operating a secure, compliant, and scalable Google Cloud foundation and for driving the migration of workloads from Azure to GCP. Combines hands-on engineering, architecture, tooling, and mentorship to enable platform teams and application owners to run production services on GCP.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement GCP landing zones: organization/folder/project structure, billing, labels, org policies, and guardrails.
- Build automated infrastructure and platform modules (Terraform/Config Connector/golden modules) for networking, compute, storage, databases, and IAM.
- Lead network and hybrid connectivity design: Shared VPC, hub-and-spoke, Interconnect, VPN, Private Service Connect, DNS and IPAM.
- Migrate compute/container workloads: VMs, managed instance groups, GKE (Autopilot/Standard), Cloud Run, App Engine.
- Migrate data and stateful services: Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL/AlloyDB, BigQuery, Dataflow/Dataproc, Pub/Sub, and cache/datastore services.
- Implement security and compliance controls: Cloud IAM, Cloud Identity/Workspace federation, Workload Identity, VPC Service Controls, Cloud KMS/CMEK, Secret Manager, Security Command Center.
- Build CI/CD and GitOps pipelines using Cloud Build/GitHub Actions/Artifact Registry and integrate IaC with policy-as-code.
- Establish observability and SRE practices: Cloud Monitoring, Logging, Trace, Error Reporting, SLOs/SLIs, incident runbooks, and game days.
- Define cost governance and FinOps practices: budgets, labels, committed use planning, cost dashboards and anomaly detection.
- Run pilots, lead migration waves, execute cutovers and rollback plans, and validate performance/RTO/RPO targets.
- Coach and transfer knowledge to platform and application teams; produce runbooks and detailed migration playbooks.
Requirements
- 7+ years cloud engineering experience; 3+ years designing/operating GCP at scale.
- Hands-on delivery of at least one end-to-end Azure-to-GCP migration (or equivalent hyperscaler-to-hyperscaler).
- Google Professional Cloud Architect certification required; Professional Data Engineer, Professional Cloud Network Engineer, or Professional Cloud Security Engineer strongly preferred.
- Kubernetes (production GKE) experience and familiarity with service meshes (Istio/Anthos) a plus.
- Experience with enterprise identity federation (Azure AD/Entra ID to Google Cloud Identity) and SCIM provisioning.
- Experience with Anthos or hybrid/multi-cloud management solutions is a plus.
- Terraform, YAML configurations, Shell scripting (required).
- Java or Python, Databricks, Azure services (Event Hubs, ADF, ADLS, Synapse) (nice to have).
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in computer science, engineering, or information systems and/or equivalent formal training or work experience.
- Five to seven (5 - 7) years’ experience in cloud engineering or related field.
- Experience providing leadership in a general planning or consulting setting.
- Experience as a leader or a senior member of multi-function project teams.

Pay
Plano, TX: $8,896.99/monthly - $12,010.93/monthly.
This compensation range is provided as a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary range for this role. Actual starting pay is determined by experience, market level, pay at the location for this job, and other job-related factors permitted by law. An employee may be eligible for additional pay, premiums, or bonus potential.
Schedule
This is a hybrid position located in Plano, TX. Candidates must live within 50 miles of the campus location. Employees will be required to work at the FedEx campus location several times per week.
