PenFed is hiring a Cloud Engineer III at our Tysons, Virginia location. This role leads the design, implementation, support, and monitoring of PenFed's emerging cloud environments, driving cloud initiatives in high-performance grid computing and managing a scalable, continuous-integration architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain cloud-based services and solutions (AWS).
  • Provide technical vision for cloud technologies and customized solutions for less complex environments.
  • Integrate cloud technologies— IaaS, PaaS, and enterprise tools such as services, monitoring, logging, and other development tools.
  • Collaborate with the Cyber Security team to implement strong security practices through periodic reviews of cloud security.
  • Monitor environments using tools like CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and other services monitoring tools.
  • Create and maintain AWS networking: VPC, Subnets, Security Groups, VPN, Peer-to-Peer, NAT, Gateways, load balancers, IP-tables, Transit Gateways, Security Groups, and ACLs.
  • Write CloudFormation or Terraform scripts for Infrastructure as Code.
  • Perform AWS Identity Access Management tasks, including user accounts, roles, and policies management.
  • Ensure stability, integrity, and efficiency of infrastructure and information systems supporting core business functions.
  • Provide escalation support to troubleshoot and maintain production infrastructure, resolving production issues and outages.
  • Participate in planning and designing an enterprise Business Continuity Plan and Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Comply with Incident Management and Change Management procedures and reporting practices.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the IT industry, including new or revised solutions and improved processes.
  • Develop and maintain secure configuration baselines for all in-place systems.
  • Assist junior staff in researching technical problems and complex designs to develop staff capabilities.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call support as needed for system outages or failures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required; in lieu of a degree, a combination of education and a minimum of ten (10) years of related work experience is accepted.
  • Minimum five (5) years of hands-on experience in designing, developing, and implementing AWS cloud environments (VPC, IAM, AMI, S3, EC2, ELB, RDS, SQS, SNS, Route53, etc.).
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in Linux systems administration.
  • Understanding of AWS architectural best practices, programming/scripting languages, and Cloud Security.
  • Experience with DevOps tools and API Gateways (Apigee, MuleSoft) is a plus.
  • Experience deploying and supporting medium to large IaaS and PaaS environments.
  • Strong understanding of Network, Compute, Storage, Cloud, and End-User technologies.
  • Familiarity with multi-tiered application architecture and public, private, and hybrid cloud technologies.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to present system designs for user approval at formal reviews.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytic, communication, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Experience using A.I. tools is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • One or more AWS Associate and Professional certifications are required.
  • Other professional certifications are a plus.

Work Environment

The role is primarily based in an indoor office setting with moderate noise. Most roles require working in an office and the ability to lift 25 pounds. Travel to various worksites and on-call availability may be required.

Pay

The anticipated starting salary range for this role is $84,700.00 - $190,223.00. This position is eligible for an organizational performance-based annual bonus (subject to board discretion and approval) and an individual performance-based annual bonus.
