About the Role
Aflac seeks a Cloud Engineer III to design, automate, and support cloud platforms within Digital Services. The ideal candidate thrives in a culture of integrity, continuous improvement, and collaboration across diverse teams.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain documentation for all aspects of the Cloud platform implementation.
- Ensure Cloud environments comply with current standards and collaborate with teams to update as required.
- Develop automation for standardizing Cloud environments and architectural design patterns for project teams.
- Conduct design and coding reviews for automation and Infrastructure-as-Code.
- Maintain runbooks/playbooks for operational support of Cloud environments.
- Participate in advanced troubleshooting, including log analysis, CSP service requests, and vendor coordination.
- Review application architectural designs to ensure reliable and performant patterns.
- Define operational characteristics for Cloud-native services.
- Monitor and address deviations in operational metrics for performance, reliability, scalability, and availability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement through research, knowledge sharing, and mentoring.
- Optimize quality and cost efficiency of Aflac’s Cloud environments.
- Support team initiatives such as recruiting, training, and speaking engagements.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- 4+ years of experience in cloud architecture, engineering, or support.
- Extensive experience with multiple programming/scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Ruby, Java, JavaScript).
- Proficiency in Windows and Linux operating systems, networking, systems/data design, and Agile methodologies.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills
- Infrastructure-as-Code expertise (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
- Cloud Architecture experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Configuration Management software experience (Chef, Ansible, Puppet, SaltStack).
- Familiarity with running and scaling distributed systems (load balancing, high availability, monitoring).
- Experience with structured text (JSON, YAML, XML).
- Proven application production support experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Passion for automating routine tasks.
- Solid understanding of networking and network-related structures.
- Ability to lead and work on projects in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to work off-hours occasionally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more AWS or Azure certifications.
Pay
The salary range for this role is $135,000 - $165,000, with consideration for education, experience, certifications, geographic location, and peer compensation. Incentive pay or benefits may be provided separately.
