Responsibilities

  • Design and implement infrastructure-as-code using AWS CDK for AWS RDS infrastructure across Oracle and Postgres with automation, repeatability, and self-service capabilities.
  • Build and maintain automated solutions for database provisioning, patching, backup and recovery, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Develop and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines and tooling to enable developers and DBAs to perform routine database operations safely and independently.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and SysOps to implement database security best practices including encryption, IAM policies, and access controls.
  • Support long-term database migration initiatives through tooling, automation, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Optimize database infrastructure costs using FinOps principles while maintaining performance and reliability standards.
  • Participate in incident response and troubleshooting for database infrastructure issues with limited on-call.
  • Mentor team members on cloud database best practices, automation techniques, and AWS services.
  • Stay current with AWS database services and emerging technologies to continuously improve platform capabilities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and hands-on AWS RDS.
  • Strong experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (AWS CDK or CloudFormation preferred; Terraform acceptable).
  • Demonstrated experience building CI/CD pipelines using GitLab or similar tools.
  • Scripting skills in Python or TypeScript for automation.
  • Production experience with Oracle or Postgres and solid understanding of relational database concepts.
  • Experience with AWS IAM, VPC networking, and security best practices.
  • Ability to solve problems and work collaboratively across teams.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred

  • AWS certifications.
  • AWS Lambda.
  • Database migration tools.
  • GitOps workflows.
  • Monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Grafana, OpenSearch).
  • DBA background transitioning to cloud and automation.
  • FinOps experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

5+ years of progressive experience in cloud infrastructure, database administration, or platform engineering with a track record of delivering automation and infrastructure solutions in production and experience in Agile environments.

Experience in regulated industries, accounting, or government environments.
