Role Overview
Our organization is seeking a Cloud Database Reliability Engineer to design, build, and evolve automated database infrastructure for a cloud-native enterprise platform supporting mission-critical applications. In this role, you will work with a team to create self-service tooling and reusable infrastructure. This will enable development teams to increase their velocity while maintaining enterprise-grade reliability and security.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement infrastructure-as-code (AWS CDK) for AWS RDS database infrastructure (Oracle and Postgres).
- Build and maintain automated solutions for database provisioning, patching, backup/recovery, and lifecycle management.
- Develop and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines and tooling for routine database operations.
- Collaborate with DevOps and SysOps teams to implement database security best practices, including encryption and access controls.
- Support long-term database migration initiatives through tooling and automation.
- Optimize database infrastructure costs while maintaining performance standards.
- Participate in incident response and troubleshooting for database infrastructure issues.
- Mentor team members on cloud database best practices and AWS services.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience with AWS cloud infrastructure, including hands-on work with RDS database services.
- Progressive experience in cloud infrastructure, database administration, or platform engineering roles.
- Production experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (AWS CDK or CloudFormation preferred; Terraform acceptable).
- Demonstrated experience building CI/CD pipelines using GitLab or similar tools.
- Production experience with either Oracle or Postgres.
- Experience with AWS IAM, VPC networking, and security best practices.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Strong scripting skills in Python or TypeScript for automation.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Database Specialty, or DevOps).
- Experience with AWS Lambda for serverless automation.
- Familiarity with database migration tools and strategies.
- Knowledge of GitOps workflows and declarative configuration management.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., AWS CloudWatch, Grafana, OpenSearch).
- Background in traditional DBA work with a transition to cloud and automation.
Work Environment
This position is open to remote candidates, but local candidates are preferred. The role requires the ability to travel for onsite meetings approximately once per quarter. An in-person interview is required.
