About the role

The Cloud Scaling team is dedicated to implementing robust capabilities within the ClickHouse cloud environment. We seek exceptional software engineers to develop and maintain the infrastructure to transform ClickHouse into a fully functional serverless database solution. Collaborating closely with the core database team, we are actively working on evolving ClickHouse into a cloud-native database system. Additionally, we engage with other cloud teams to drive continuous improvements in cloud infrastructure for enhanced performance and scalability.

Responsibilities

  • Build a cutting-edge cloud-native database platform on top of the public cloud.
  • Work on our in-house Kubernetes operator to support seamless infrastructure management.
  • Improve the metrics pipeline and build systems to generate better statistics and recommendations.
  • Work closely with our ClickHouse core development team and other data plane teams, partnering with them to support infrastructure use cases as well as other internal infrastructure improvements.
  • Architect and build a robust, scalable, and highly available distributed infrastructure.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant software development industry experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems.
  • Production experience with programming languages like Go, C++ or Java.
  • Experience with PagerDuty on-call, debugging production issues, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Expertise with a public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their infrastructure-as-a-service offerings (e.g., EC2).
  • Experience with Data Storage, Ingestion, and Transformation (Spark, Kafka or similar tools).
  • Passion for solving data problems at scale.
  • Experience working with distributed systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within and across engineering teams.

Pay

The typical starting salary for this role in the US is $133,450—$197,200 USD. In certain premium markets, such as the San Francisco Bay Area and the New York City Metro Area, the typical starting salary range is $157,000—$232,000 USD. These ranges reflect the minimum and maximum pay for this role at the time of posting and may be subject to future adjustments. Actual compensation will depend on factors including education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs.
