Close Combat Weapons Instructor

About the Role

Instructor tasks involve teaching Close Quarters Combat (NTTP 3-05.24) and Special Operations in Urban Combat (SOUC) skills and tactics. Emphasis is placed on target discrimination, precise shot placement, rapid and structured force movement, precision breaching, and clear communications between patrol members. These skills are essential for operations inside buildings, ships, maritime platforms, and other confined spaces including aircraft, tunnels, and caves per NTTP 3-05.24.

Responsibilities

• Qualify and act as Range Safety Officer (RSO) when required, except for Vertical Assault, Combatives, and Air Operations instructors.
• Perform logistic support for field exercises, including coordinating with other instructors for subject matter expertise.
• Assist with risk assessments, considering factors such as weather, distance from emergency medical care, equipment, instructor-to-student ratio, and student proficiency.
• Recommend training schedules/curriculum, schedule training sites and ranges, review student rosters, and identify equipment shortages.
• Assist in setting up and coordinating equipment in practical field environments (e.g., targeting systems, marine reconnaissance vehicles, sandbags).
• Provide logistical support during planning, classroom instruction, practical field training, final training exercises, and troop movements with Trip Leader instructors.
• Perform multiple disciplines under one curriculum or training as required.
• Accommodate ad-hoc and extended work schedules to meet training requirements.
• Understand a wide variety of guidelines, publications, and instructions related to safety and mission-specific NSW training.
• Maintain physical fitness to work in fast-paced environments, completing multiple tasks under stringent timelines.
• Engage in physical activities such as running, swimming, climbing, and lifting (up to 75 lbs) for periods of up to 20 hours, in conditions ranging from -5°F to 120°F.

As a NSW Subject Matter Expert, the instructor must be able to teach the following:

• Dynamic and Deliberate Entry from two-man through Troop-sized clearance.
• Hallways, Stairways, and De-conflictions.
• Marshalling and Sensitive Site Exploitation.
• Forced Entry including explosive, manual, mechanical, and thermal methods.
• Employment of Diversionary and Marking Devices.
• Target Analysis and Assault Planning.
• Tactical Leader and Command and Control Element development.
• Dismounted/Mounted Patrolling and Immediate Action (Contact) Drills.
• Ground and Air Asset Management and Implementation.
• Fixed and Rotary Wing insertion/extraction.
• Non-Combatant Evacuations.
