About the role

Provide treatment, monitoring, and follow-up analysis for clinical trial participants. Responsibilities include taking health histories, watching for negative effects, collecting samples, and ensuring adherence to federal and regulatory requirements regarding patient information. Work collaboratively with team members and physicians to identify potential clinical trial participants, oversee recruitment, and ensure informed consent. This role requires the Registered Nurse (R.N.) credential and may involve bedside care.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and ensure subject safety during trials.
  • Propose and negotiate alternatives for protocol.
  • Educate staff about the scientific aspects of the study.
  • Apply pharmacological knowledge to help Principal Investigator (PI) determine idiosyncrasies and unexpected results.
  • Evaluate adverse events (AE), intervene when necessary, and report details to PI.
  • Conduct follow-up to determine resolution of AE and report serious AEs to IRB and sponsor.
  • Present trial-related information to the community for recruitment or to other research professionals.
  • Mentor and train new and subordinate employees.
  • Help determine personnel required to complete trials and develop timelines for trial completion.
  • Review study-related data to ensure compliance with study protocol.
  • Prepare emergency use reports.
  • Manage pharmacokinetic collection and storage.
  • Relate lab results to PI and sponsor.
  • Ensure appropriate maintenance and calibration of equipment.

Qualifications

Requires current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system, to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

  • Clinical Trial Nurse (R.N.), I: Requires a bachelor’s degree (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s degree (or equivalency). Entry-level position.
  • Clinical Trial Nurse (R.N.), II: Requires a bachelor’s degree (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master’s degree (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience. Developing-level position with moderate supervision.
  • Clinical Trial Nurse (R.N.), III: Requires a bachelor’s degree (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master’s degree (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience. Career-level position with minimal supervision.

Equivalency Statement: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (e.g., bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Some earlier mornings and later evenings may be required.

Pay

Pay rate range: $25.00 to $54.00 per hour, depending on job level and experience.
