About the role

Moves and transports patients of various weights, ages, and sizes to and from beds, ambulatory devices, and treatment areas using proper body mechanics while ensuring patient comfort and safety. Interacts with patients from toddlers to geriatric with diverse medical conditions. Secures, returns, and maintains supplies and equipment, and assists in maintaining a safe, clean environment. May also act as a patient sitter to provide direct observation and ensure safety.

Responsibilities

  • Attains and applies knowledge reflecting current patient transport practices.
  • Transports patients according to priority, adapting to changing needs as required.
  • Verifies correct patient identification using approved hospital identifiers.
  • Ensures patients and their medical records are taken to and returned from proper locations.
  • Uses transport tracking software accurately and in a timely manner to reflect work processes.
  • Maintains and safely stores oxygen tanks and other equipment.
  • Rounds throughout the hospital each shift to collect, relocate, and tag defective equipment per policy.
  • Maintains a clean, quiet, and safe Environment of Care, including hallway safety and cleanliness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics.
  • Previous experience in a hospital setting preferred.

  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Functions effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Every other weekend required.
